On this page
To help you prepare for the 2024 Peak Season and make the most of your Shopify store, we’ve outlined some essential steps and analytics to focus on:
Top Products (SKUs) by Number of Orders:
-
Add Mixtable Analytics Spreadsheet to your store to be able to see your data in spreadsheet format
-
Add a Products (with variants) worksheet to the spreadsheet
-
Add an Analytics column with Orders Count and choose dates:
- One column for dates between Nov 16, 2021 - Nov 30, 2021
- Another for dates between Nov 16, 2022 - Nov 30, 2022
- And one more for dates between Nov 16, 2023 - Nov 30, 2023
-
Sort the Orders Count columns one after the other, so the highest values come first
-

Top Products (SKUs) by Profit (Net Sales minus Cost):
-
To calculate Profit in Shopify, you need to have Cost data per product SKU - here’s an article on how to add cost in bulk in Shopify
-
Then add Mixtable Analytics Spreadsheet to your store to be able to see your data in spreadsheet format
-
Add a Products (with variants) worksheet to the spreadsheet
-
Add an Analytics column with Gross Profit and choose dates in 3 different columns:
- Nov 16, 2021 - Nov 30, 2021
- Nov 16, 2022 - Nov 30, 2022
- Nov 16, 2023 - Nov 30, 2023
-
Sort the Gross Profit columns one after the other, so the highest values come first
-
See your Top Products by Profit for the past three Peak Seasons and act accordingly
Gross Profit is each SKU’s sales minus the cost of the units it sold, so you don’t need a formula of your own. Shopify does not keep a history of your costs, so Mixtable uses the Cost per item that is on each variant today for all three seasons. If your costs have changed since 2021, treat the older seasons as an estimate. Here’s how Mixtable calculates profit, margin, and cost of goods sold.
Top Collections by Number of Orders:
-
Add Mixtable Analytics Spreadsheet to your store to be able to see your data in spreadsheet format
-
Add a Collections worksheet to the spreadsheet. It lists your manual and automated collections together, and its Collection Type column tells them apart
-
Add an Analytics column with Orders Count and choose dates:
- One column for dates between Nov 16, 2021 - Nov 30, 2021
- Another for dates between Nov 16, 2022 - Nov 30, 2022
- And one more for dates between Nov 16, 2023 - Nov 30, 2023
-
Sort the Orders Count columns one after the other, so the highest values come first

Check for Stale Inventory
-
Add Mixtable Analytics Spreadsheet to your store to be able to see your data in spreadsheet format
-
Add a Products (no variants) worksheet to the spreadsheet
-
Add an Analytics column with Dead Stock Units (listed under Inventory) and choose dates:
- Nov 16, 2023 - yesterday
-
Sort the column so the highest values come first
-
See which of your products have the most units in stock that did not sell at all over the last year
Dead Stock Units counts the units still in stock at the end of the period on variants that sold nothing during it. Add Dead Stock Value at Cost beside it to see how much money that stock ties up, or Sell-Through Rate and Inventory Turnover to find products that sell, but slowly. Mixtable’s inventory history starts on October 1, 2023 and runs through yesterday, so inventory metrics never include today. Consider running discounts for them or bundling them up with other products
