Bulk edit Shopify multi-location inventory

Bulk edit Shopify multi-location inventoryManage Shopify multi-location inventory in a live, auto-updating spreadsheet. Learn how to view inventory by location, customize inventory columns, and send reviewed inventory changes to Shopify using Mixtable. To bulk edit Shopify multi-location inventory with Mixtable, add one column per Shopify location to a worksheet of your variants. Each row is a variant and each column holds its stock at one location, so you can update quantities everywhere from one sheet: type them, paste them from a stock count, or fill them with formulas. Then preview the changes and sync them to Shopify in one go.
Note: You add new locations in Shopify, under Settings > Locations. If a location you just added isn’t in the field picker, click Refresh in the Inventory heading to load it.
This article covers stock across locations. For the rest of your inventory work, such as turning on tracking, setting the inventory policy, and importing stock counts, see how to manage Shopify inventory in bulk.
Step 1 - Map existing inventory locations to columns in your Mixtable worksheet
Follow these steps to map your current inventory locations to columns in Mixtable. This will show any existing available inventory at these locations, and allow you to modify the inventory.
- If you haven’t added a Products (with variants) worksheet to Mixtable, begin by doing so. Here you can check how to add a new worksheet
- Configure an inventory column for each inventory location you want to edit. \
To load more Shopify data, click + Shopify data in the header row of an empty column, such as the one right after your last column. You can also choose Column > Add Shopify data… from the menu bar. The field picker opens and asks What should column E show?, with your column's letter in place of E. It lists everything the worksheet can show from Shopify, grouped into sections the way your Shopify admin groups them. Type in the search box at the top, or click a section on the left, to find the field you want.

- Click Inventory in the list of sections on the left. Under By location, click Stock at followed by the location you want to map, such as Stock at Headquarters. In the panel on the right, choose Available as the stock count, and click Save Column. Mixtable maps the column and fills it with the quantity of “Available” inventory in Shopify
- Repeat the same process for each location whose inventory you want to manage
Step 2 - Modify cells and sync inventory numbers back to Shopify
Once you have columns mapped for each location where you would like to set inventory, find the cell that shows the inventory of a particular variant at a particular location. All you need to do is change the value of the cell, click Sync at the top right of the spreadsheet, review your changes in the preview that opens, then click Sync again. Mixtable will now set the available inventory for that variant at the given location to the value you’ve input into the cell.
To modify the values of many cells in bulk or to change the inventory of one or more variants at one or more locations, you can use all the spreadsheet tools that Mixtable provides. You can manually change each cell, you can copy and paste, you can click and drag, or you can use Bulk number changes.
- Manually change individual cells - when using Mixtable you can manually modify cells one by one when you need to make small changes to a single cell
- Use Bulk Edit > Bulk number changes - use this tool when you want to make the same change to multiple cells at the same time. It lets you, for example, double the values in a column, or decrease them by a certain percentage. Open it from the Bulk Edit menu, or right-click a location column’s letter and choose Bulk number changes… to open it with that column already chosen. It changes every visible row in the column, so filter the worksheet first if you only want to change some of them
- Copy & Paste - when you need to change your inventory to the same value at more than one location, you can use the copy and paste option
- Click & Drag - In some cases, you might need to have the same amount of inventory for each product variant you have. In this case you can simply use the click and drag feature to update all of your variants at once
Import a CSV to update inventory across multiple Shopify locations
If you already have inventory columns mapped for multiple Shopify locations in Mixtable and you have updated inventory numbers in a CSV, you can import that CSV into your worksheet and update multiple location columns in one go.
Here is the quick flow:
- Click Import & Export and select Import CSV file
- Upload your CSV file
- Match CSV rows to your worksheet using a key like SKU
- Choose Update matching rows only (most inventory CSVs are updates, not new items)
- Pick the location inventory columns you want to update, review the preview, then run the import
For the full walkthrough, see Import CSV to update or add Shopify store data
When the import is done, click Sync at the top right of the spreadsheet, check the preview that opens, then click Sync again whenever you are ready to apply those inventory updates to Shopify.
See stock by location without editing it
To check one variant’s stock everywhere, click a cell in its row, then click Details in the toolbar. The Stock by location section lists what’s available at each location. To see how stock changed over time at each location, Mixtable Analytics Spreadsheet calculates metrics such as Closing Stock and In-Stock Rate from your store’s day-by-day stock history. A Pivot Table or Time Series worksheet broken down by location gives each location its own row. See the inventory analytics guide.
